Three easy ways to do charity without donating money.

What is the first thing that comes on your mind when you are about to donate your money? Is it the food you can buy using that money? Maybe some concerts you can go to if you save the money? Or even your magazine collection?

“As soon as we start thinking about donating money, we start thinking of reasons not to do it.”
- Charles P. Pierce (in an article from O, The Oprah Magazine)

However, there are more to charity than just money donations. Charity is not only about humans but it also involves animals and the environment. There are many ways of doing charity without donating money such as donating old stuff, doing voluntary works and shopping.

1. Donating old stuff.
Don’t just throw unused clothes away or leave them hanging in your wardrobe. It can be donated to old folk’s home or orphanages.
However, your designer clothes may not be suitable for residence in such homes. Therefore, maybe you can give it to groups such as Tongue in Chic that organizes Chic Charity, a charity sales that urges everybody to donate good condition clothes to them so that they can sell it and give the money earned from the sales to charity organizations.
Other than clothes, you can also donate books. If you’re in Johor, you can donate your books through JOHO here *click*. Other stuff such as electrical appliances and old hand phones can also be donated to charity homes and the needy.

Maybe there isn’t anything much that you are willing to let go. How about doing some voluntary works?

2. Doing voluntary works.
The first step to start volunteering is to choose the cause that you can relate to. If you like to help people, maybe you can go to charity homes and start volunteering by cleaning the place and entertaining the residence or getting them to involve in fun activities.
If you are an animal lover, you can go to animal shelters or even veterinaries to help the workers clean up the place, walk the dogs and play around with the animals there. Furthermore, you can adopt animals at the shelters as your own pet.
If you are more of an environmentalist, you can join communities that run activities involving saving the environment such as ‘Sampah Masyarakat’.

If you don’t have time to volunteer, maybe you can do charity by doing something that most of us love which is...

3. Shopping.
There are many charity sales and charity auctions organized everywhere. For example Chic Charity, which I have mentioned previously. Go to those events and buy something that you or your family and friends might like. Try browsing the internet or even the daily newspapers for upcoming charity events. There are also shops that use the profit for charity purposes such as Bless Shop which I have mentioned in previous article about the benefits of buying second hand clothes.
You can also go to events organized by charity homes such as carnivals and buy coupons to shop there. Usually, there will be handicrafts made by the residence and unused donated items on sale at such events.

Charity is all about giving whether it is money, stuff or even time. The ultimate question is not “whether to give, or not to give?” but; “what are you giving?” Don’t ask what the world can give to you but ask yourself what you can give to the world to make it a better place.

dolu2 masa kat uitm, fakulti selalu organize functions or trips yg ada berkaitan dgn volutary works.

pg help out kat zoo negara (those yg amek subject environmental law ~ i tag along sajork sbb msa tu skandel amek subjek tu. oops...)

rumah penyayang kat seksyen 18 (lupa daa nama dia rumah tu apa). we help out by spending some time with those unfortunate kids, cleaning the house and whatnot.

charity sale. masa tu ada one of the faculty's student dapat tahu she got diagnosed with cancer so all of us set up charity bake-sale n street performance dpn menara (those yg study kat uitm s.alam taw la katner).

gosh... i miss those days masa kat uitm.

kat ukm, bukan nk complaint or anything... tp seriously fakulti i susah gle nk approve program2 mcm ni. sedangkan aku heran betul budak2 jabatan laen buat trip kem bina smangat la, jalan2 ke bandung la ape la... senang plak fakulti nk luluskan. lepas tu lecturers from those jabatan sibuk je nk tag along. memang la dh pakai peruntukan dr fakulti, they keluarkan almost to no money at all utk gerakkan program.

tak pueh hati tol...
